Household Consumption Expenditures in Albania
Household Consumption Expenditures in Albania
Consumption expenditures include any kind of "purchase" of products and services to meet the individual needs of households and individuals over a certain period of time. These expenditures are calculated on monthly basis. The consumption expenditure structure shows the distribution of consumption expenditure or "purchases" performed by households residing in the Albanian territory. These data are collected through the Household Budget Survey. The consumption expenditure structure shows the movements and time series of the consumption expenditures of household’s.
The classification of products and services purchased by households has been done using the European Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose (ECOICOP - 6 digits, 2012) adjusted for Household Budget Surveys. The classification was adapted to fit the specific conditions in Albania. The structure of the monthly expenditures of households is divided into 12 main groups of consumption.
The consumption expenditure is defined in such a way that the expenditures made for several products or services of the same kind or type are comprised into a larger inclusive group. Figure 2 is used to show the division into these groups and sets the values in "%" to show their size. The figure looks more like a pizza than a graph. The bigger the piece you have, the bigger the value in % is for that "piece" group, and the bigger expenditures are done in that group.
The group “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” is an important element in the household’s budget with a value of ALL 35,083 or 39.7 percent of the overall household budget. That means fairly close to half of the household’s consumption expenditure is for food and non-alcoholic beverages.
The next largest slice is the group of expenditures for housing, with expenditures for electricity, water, fuel, rent and small repairs with an average monthly expenditure of ALL 8,640 or 9.8 percent of the household budget.
The group "Restaurants and Hotels" with an average monthly expenditure of ALL 6,448 took 7.3 percent of the total budget.
