1.2.1 Proportion of population living below the national poverty line, by sex and age
The national poverty rate is the percentage of the total population living below the national poverty line. The rural poverty rate is the percentage of the rural population living below the national poverty line (or in cases where a separate, rural poverty line is used, the rural poverty line). Urban poverty rate is the percentage of the urban population living below the national poverty line (or in cases where a separate, urban poverty line is used, the urban poverty line). (UN)
Persons at risk of monetary poverty after social transfers are persons with an equivalised disposable income below the risk-of-poverty threshold, which is set at 60 % of the national median equivalised disposable income (after social transfers). (EUROSTAT);

INSTAT-The indicator is based on the EU-SILC (statistics on income, social inclusion and living conditions) from 2017 and on. INSTAT produced the absolute poverty indicator from 2002 to 2012 based on the Living Standards Measurement Survey (LSMS). This methodology measured absolute poverty based on household consumption.
