INSTAT has successfully developed the last Population and Housing Census in October 2011. In December 2011 it published the preliminary results, while in December 2012 it published the Final Results, during the second quarter of 2013 it published the results by Regions as and in May 2014 published In-depth Census Analysis 2011;

The budget allocated for Census 2011 was 16.7 million Euros.

On October 1, 2011 the resident population of Albania was 2,821,977 inhabitants. There is a decrease in population number of approximately 8.0% compared to the Census of 2001, where the counted population was 3,069,275 inhabitants.

For Census 2020, INSTAT will use the traditional method, door-to-door, through questionnaire interviews, but unlike Census 2011 which was conducted with paper questionnaires, in 2020 tablets will be used.
